Volunteering

The number of people that volunteer their time to help create the event is a reflection of the growing passion for healthy lifestyle and healing choices in the community. With boundless energy, and a diversity of interests and skills people come from all walks of life to help make this event possible.

Health + Community + Education + Helping Others = YCHY Expo
Do you want to make a difference in the health of your community?
Do you want to help your family, friends and neighbors access free and low cost health screenings and education?
Do you want to help students at your school learn the latest information?
Do you have skills and time that you want to share to help your community?

If you answered yes to any of the above, then YCHY Expo is the place for you! There are countless ways that people can help YCHY Expo continue to reach to new communities and help us ensure that our operations run smoothly all year round.

It’s the enthusiasm and creativity of the people involved that bring the You Can Heal Yourself Expo to life each year.

What does a Volunteer do?

Our volunteers do a variety of tasks that make our festival possible: selling tickets, doing garbage runs, minding booths while exhibitors catch a break, setting up stages etc. Go to the Volunteer Jobs page for a complete list of all our teams and a brief description of what they do.

Can I volunteer if I’m under 18?

Yes! If you are aged 15 years and over you are eligible to volunteer at the YCHY Expo. But please be aware that some teams are only suitable for those over the age of 18.

What does a volunteer get in return for their time?

A volunteer gets free access to the expo, free tea and coffee in the volunteer centre, subsidised meals, a free Expo T shirt, those with businesses will be give the opportunity to have their flyers on our Expo Table. Ask your Coordinator for details.

Being a volunteer is a great way to meet a community of other like-minded individuals, where friendships and memories are made for a lifetime.
What is a Volunteer’s time commitment?

The minimum time commitment required to earn all the rewards of volunteering and free entry to the Festival is five (5) hours. The Festival runs for two days, and so for most areas this will equate with being rostered for five hours a day for four days. However, some Festival areas (such as Communications and Stage Management) may have other time commitments to cover their need for staffing. The configuration of the 5 hours is something that you organise with your Coordinator.

Volunteer Opportunities

Here are just some of our regular volunteer opportunities:

  •     Bumpin/Bumpout helpers: helping our Expo organisers and exhibitors to setup their sites and booths and prepare for the Expo.
  • Ticket Sellers: we will need a few people rostered on to sell tickets and put on Expo armbands over the term of the Expo
  • Emcees: we are going to need a few people with microphone skills to Emcee for the two stages.
  • Techies: we will need people with electrical and computer skills over the weekend
  • First Aid: we will need a roster of those with First Aid certificates available over the expo
  • Security: it is a part of our agreement with SC Daily and The Hub that we have at a minimum 2 volunteers to support the paid security guard on duty over the weekend.
